The Titleist Performance Monitor
The Titleist Performance Monitor (TPM) is the most accurate instrument in ball launch analysis technology available. The TPM houses four cameras which focus on impact positions of both the club and ball. These images can be used to calculate the exact speed, backspin, sidespin, vertical angle and side angle of every shot. The TPM stores the information for comparison and analysis and allows the golfer (along with a trained fitting professional) to choose the club which best suits your swing.

The Advantage

Accurate club and ball fitting will give you a competitive edge. The TPM's measurements can scientifically evaluate the consistency of your swing or the effect of spin rate on carry distance or rollout. It detects the effect of the slightest changes in grip, stance or swing. You will benefit from knowing your carry yardages with various clubs, or experiment with various lofts to see which gives the best results. Coaches also benefit from the club data which examines club path and attack angle.

Limitations

In any fitting session there can be no substitute for the trained eye. It is imperative that any fitting take place outdoors where ball flight can be observed fully. In conjunction with visible ball flight, a launch monitor is extremely useful in fitting golf equipment. Launch monitors are extremely helpful in the club fitting process because they offer objective data which supports what we see in the air.

Static Fitting versus Dynamic Fitting
The process of measuring variables to properly fit golf equipment has evolved rapidly over the past decade. With the development of portable launch monitors and improved testing facilities, the science of fitting golf clubs has developed into an informative and beneficial process for any golfer. Fitting golf clubs in the past was a process explored only by the keenest players who were seeking an edge over the competition.
Today, the process of fitting golf clubs has become all but necessary for any player who plays at least a few times a year. Proper fitting golf equipment is essential to better ball-striking and to prevent development of fault-producing compensatory moves during the swing.

Static Fitting: Determining equipment specifications for a golfer after calculating static measurements without considering dynamic swing motion, ball flight, or other motor skill performance variables.
Usually, a measuring tape and other like to
ols are utilized in this process. For example, taking finger tip to floor measurements. Static fitting is considered to be better than no fitting; however, it is not reliable.

Dynamic Fitting: Determining equipment specifications for a golfer after measuring and observing a golfer’s swing style, impact conditions and ball-flight tendencies.
State of the art custom-fitting tools are utilized in this process to accurately measure and assess your performance characteristics. The knowledge, experience and leadership of a trained professional are integral to the success of this process.
